This ex Auckland to Wellington Northerner first class car was stored at Helensville in the 1990's as part of a failed museum project. In 2000 the Society purchased the carriage and trucked it to Feilding on the 5th Feburary 2001.

When a defect was found it was marked with high visibility pink paint and the defect was recorded on an inspection form.

Once the seats were removed we carried them out the of window and stacked them in a pile.

Removing the first class seats out the window so the floor can be repaired.
Waterblasting out a carriage 18th August 2001
We removed the rotten carpet and then water blasted out the carriage.
Cleaning out the broken glass and rubbish 21st April 2001
Russell and Rod have started to clean up the first of the two Helensville first class carriages A1023. The plan is clean them out and repair broken and rusted parts and eventually return them to service.
