This boiler was orginally obtained as a spare for Ab608. It was used at the Darfield Brick and Tile Company in the South Island,
who brought it from the Army, who in turn brought it from the NZR for steam heating etc at Burnham Military Camp.
A North British boiler number 989, the boiler was orginally fitted to Ab743, and later was used on Abs 733, 661 and 793.
The spare boiler arrived at Feilding on Tuesday, 19 March 2002 by truck. The boiler had been stored at Ferrymead in Christchurch.

The gantry was used to lift the boiler off the truck.

The boiler was stripped of its remaining lagging in place. Once stripped, it was again lifted by the gantry, onto a US wagon.

We had the Dsa repaired and one of it's first jobs was to move the boiler into the secure part of the yard.
